SUPPORT YOUNG COLLECTORS - STAMP ACTIVE NETWORK - 2014.
Callum Wood gets The Anne Dummer Award
Stamp Active Network has presented the 2014 Anne Dummer Trophy to Callum Wood from Blackpool as their “Young Collector of the Year”.
The Trophy, sponsored by Midpex, is given in memory of the late Anne Dummer who was a past organiser of Kidstamps and ran the very successful Kettering Junior Stamp Club for many years.
Callum was selected to receive the award because he has run two junior stamp clubs. He started the Montgomery High Stamp Club, Blackpool and also takes an active part in the local library stamp club.
In the library club Callum is “an absolute star” according to the librarian who runs the club. He is interested in everything; he helps others; he encourages them all to go onto the Stamp Active website and join Kidstamps (of which he is a member). He has also brought others to the stamp club that operated with only two of them to start with and has now gone up to seven. He is a whiz on the computer; does anything that is asked of him and enjoys going to stamp fairs. He has also produced some excellent display sheets.
Callum visited Autumn Stampex with his parents and was presented with the Trophy by John Davies, Chairman of the Stamp Active Network. He also received the gift of a Dinosaur Canvas Print from Royal Mail’s Fraser Chisholm.

Smiles all round at Autumn Stampex
The Stamp Active area for young collectors was a hive of activity on the Saturday of Autumn Stampex with improved attendance. Commenting on the day, John Davies, Chairman of Stamp Active Network, said “It seems our initiative to reward those who “Bring A Child to Stampex” may be working with the prize draws producing smiles all round. The kids love taking part in the activities and free auction (using their points from completing the quizzes etc). The highlight is always the draw at the end of the auction for a Penny Black, which was sponsored this time by Beckett Philatelics”.
The Penny Black was won by Cherise Barnett of Barking. “You only had to see the smile on her face as she received her prize to realise how delighted she was.” There were also many smiles on the faces of the adults who won prizes in their own draw although many of those seemed to find their way direct to the children. Details of the prize winners are below:
· SG Penny Black Wallet RRP £350 donated by Stanley Gibbons - Won by Eugene Wilson, Dartford
· 2013 Year Book donated by Royal Mail - Won by David Charlton, Gateshead
· Subscription to Stamp Magazine - Won by Andrew Farman, Reading
· Subscription to Stamp & Coin Mart Magazine - Won by Graham Cole, Mickleover, Derby
· Four A5 Stockbooks donated by Lighthouse (The Duncannon Partnership) - Won by Peter Sondhela, London
· IOM Island of Culture Stamp & Card Collection donated by Isle of Man Stamps & Coins - Won by Mayo Chilae, London
· Bagpuss Smilers Sheet donated by Buckingham Covers - Won by Chris Barker, Crayford, Kent
· “Man of Steel” Presentation Folder donated by Jersey Post - Won by David Proops, Stanmore, London
Stamp Active Network will be putting on the activity area, free children’s auctions and Prize draws again in 2015 at both Spring and Autumn Stampex and London (Europhilex) 2015, so please “BRING A CHILD”. All these events are at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London.

Tim and Maureen Cory receive the Bill Hart Award
Stamp Active Network has presented the 2014 Bill Hart Award, which is given each year to recognise outstanding contributions by adults to the field of Youth Philately to Tim and Maureen Cory. Tim and Maureen Cory returned to stamp collecting when their daughters joined the Kettering Junior Stamp Club organised by Anne Dummer. Both girls also joined Kidstamps, the children’s postal stamp club which Anne had started under the auspices of the National Youth Stamp Group and from which they both got great pleasure. With Anne’s untimely death they realised that there was no one there to take over Kidstamps, and they decided to take it on so that other children were not deprived of the wonderful experience of stamp collecting that their daughters had gained. That was 7 years ago when Kidstamps had just 89 members. Now 7 years later, nearly 2000 children have been through the Kidstamps experience, thanks to Tim and Maureen. The scheme works on the basis of sending out vouchers which the children return in exchange for more stamps, FDCs, and other items, and Tim and Maureen are now sending out well over 1000 vouchers a year.
Tim and Maureen received a gift of Royal Mail Royalty items, a framed certificate and both signed the Roll of Honour. For more information on Kidstamps have a look at the Stamp Active website www.stampactive.co.uk.
