The Awards of Merit.
This consists of a framed Certificate, which are given for outstanding voluntary service to British Philately at regional, specialist and local society level. Candidates must be members of an affiliated organisation to the ABPS. Not more than 15 (fifteen) awards are made each year.
"Outstanding service" in each case includes work to advance philately at the level appropriate to the particular award, such as Congress or the ABPS, a convention or exhibition and with the activities of an Association/Federation or affiliated society, carried out on a voluntary basis over a notable period of time. Excluded from consideration are philatelic research and studies, the formation of collections, journalistic work or the reading of papers.
Unsuccessful candidates will remain so nominated for four years, during which time they will be considered at the annual meeting of the Awards Committee. Although nominations lapse after four years, they may be renewed, with any appropriate updating, on the specified form.
