SUPPORT YOUNG COLLECTORS - STAMP ACTIVE NETWORK - 2018.
Anne Dummer Award 2018
As organisers of the Anne Dummer Award, the Stamp Active Network are again asking all junior stamp club organisers and anyone involved in the hobby of stamp collecting with young people to consider making nominations for this national award for the year 2018.
Anne Dummer was a passionate believer in the value of stamp collecting for young people and was greatly involved in the organisation that is now Stamp Active. In her memory the organisers of Midpex donated a trophy to be presented each year to the young person chosen from nominations for Young Stamp Collector of the Year. For nominees we are not looking for someone who has won the most competitions, or has the best collection, or who is the most knowledgeable, but someone who contributes to the hobby or to their club by being helpful, by helping fellow collectors, or introducing others to the hobby. In other words we are looking for some young person who loves the hobby and actively wants to help share the hobby with others.
Please think carefully about the young collectors that you are in contact with, and let us know who you would like to nominate. There is no set nomination form, but just send us a brief note of who they are, their age, school club if applicable, and a short note on why you feel they are suitable for this award.
Nominations should be sent to David Rossall, Stamp Active Network Publicity Officer at [email protected], by the end of March. The intention would be to make the selection and arrange for the presentation of the trophy at Autumn Stampex, or other suitable occasion. Anyone nominated in the past, but not selected, is eligible for re-nomination.
Stamp Active Spring Competition 2018
Once again the judges in the Stamp Active Competition for Spring 2018 were impressed by the ingenuity and diversity shown through the exhibits. However, it would be good to see more entries particularly from areas of the UK that were once so active in promoting collecting among the young.
The entries in the Stamp Active Competition, sponsored by the Great Britain Philatelic Society, were judged by Dave Armitage, Brian Asquith and Richard West, at the premises of The Royal Philatelic Society London. Thanks to The Philatelic Traders’ Society, they are exhibited at Spring Stampex International.
The results are:
The overall best entry and the best entry in Class D is Animals in Books and Films by Jessica Corbett. The best entry in Class C is Wales by Max Fenn.
